Opening CSV Files in Excel from Inclusion's Integrated Journal Entry
When opening the CSV versions of the Inclusion Journal Entry Results in Excel, some GL codes may be automatically interpreted and converted into dates due to Excel’s default formatting behavior.
This may happen when opening the following files
- Excel JE Results in CSV format.
- Any of the accounting program exports in CSV format.
The following screenshot provides an example:
To prevent this from occurring, there are a couple of methods you can use to open the CSV file while preserving the original GL Code formatting.
- Open the CSV file in the Notepad app.
- Use the Excel Text Import Wizard.
Notepad App
To open the CSV file in the Notepad app:
- Right click on the file in Windows File Explorer and choose “Open with” and then choose “Notepad”.
OR
- Open the Notepad app and select File\Open and choose the CSV file from the browser.
Excel Text Import Wizard
To open the CSV file in Excel while preserving the GL Code formatting:
- Open Excel
- Click on the File menu and choose “Open”
- Select your CSV file from the Browse option on the right and click Open. The Excel Text Import Wizard will automatically open to Step 1 of 3.
- the Original data type section choose “Delimited” and click the Next button. You will then be advanced to Step 2 of 3.
- In the Delimiters section check “Comma”, ensure no other Delimiter options are checked and click the Next button. You will be advanced to Step 3 of 3.
- In this step look at the Data preview section and click on the GL Code column – it will highlight when you click on it.
- With the GL Code column highlighted, in the Column data format section (above the preview), choose “Text”.
- Click the Finish button.
- The CSV file will open in Excel with the GL Code formatting preserved.
